One thing Star Trek: Lower Decks does incredibly well is create small sequels for beloved characters from the second-wave era of the franchise. Meanwhile, Strange New Worlds delivers classic Star Trek stories with a modern twist, including incorporating song. The series' musical episode was a genuine zeitgeist moment for Star Trek, with a cast recording being officially released. Of course, among the Trek faithful, new ideas can be divisive. Some fans praised the musical episode but said it "wasn't Star Trek." Interestingly, Lower Decks doing its own musical episode would provide the perfect vehicle for the return of Vic Fontaine.
