Warning: The below contains spoilers for Marvel's Echo on Disney+.

Echo writer Amy Rardin has explained how the Daredevil scene in the latest MCU Disney+ series came to fruition, saying they always planned to use Charlie Cox's character "in a specific way."

Rardin broke down the "very important" fight scene between Cox's Daredevil and Alaqua Cox's Maya Lopez in an interview with Deadline, revealing that it became a hot topic in the writers room as they wanted to find the best way to incorporate Daredevil without detracting from the main focus of the show.

"We were really excited to get to use Daredevil because he's a very important part of the [Echo] comics," Rardin said. "We knew that we were going to want to use him in a specific way. The fight between Daredevil and Maya was very important to [director] Sydney [Freeland]. We talked a lot in the room about consistently keeping the story from Maya's point of view.

"We know how excited everyone is about Daredevil. We were excited about Daredevil. But really, what that fight is about is Maya going from student to practical," she further noted. "It's the first time she kills someone. It's the first time she proves herself to Kingpin. She took on one of his biggest rivals. It's her coming into her own in Fisk's operation.

"So that is how we approached that fight. To get to be able to use Daredevil was amazing, but it was very much in service of Maya's story and who she is at that time in her life."

Daredevil shows up in an exciting action sequence in the first episode of Echo, as Maya carries out a mission for Kingpin, which sees her take down their criminal competition and face off against Daredevil in a moment that fans first glimpsed in the trailers for the series - the first to launch under the Marvel Spotlight banner.

The fight scene also adds interesting context to the upcoming Daredevil: Born Again show as we know that Echo will be known to Daredevil, as well as being an antagonist for Kingpin, meaning there is the likelihood of a team-up in the future, especially given the characters' close association to one another in the comics.

All episodes of Echo are now streaming on Disney+, and it is worth adding to your watch list. IGN's review of Echo's first three episodes praised the show for delivering "a refreshingly gritty, grounded, and unflinchingly violent superhero story" centered around "a culturally authentic and captivating antihero worth rooting for."
