The Nintendo Switch is the OG console. It was released back in 2017 and is still one of the best and most popular consoles around, especially since you can play it in either handheld or docked mode. If you can afford the small price premium, though, I'd recommend getting the newer OLED model. The Nintendo Switch OLED display is a visible improvement over the original LCD display, including deeper blacks, more vibrant colors, and a better color gradient. The text is sharper and easier to read as well. The screen isn't that much bigger (7" on the OLED vs 6.2" on the non-OLED), but it does feel a lot bigger thanks to a thinner bezel. Other upgrades worth mentioning are a new and improved kickstand, a hard-wired ethernet port on the docking station, and an exclusive white Switch shell and matching Joy-Cons.
The Nintendo Switch Lite is $100 cheaper than the Switch and $150 cheaper than the Switch OLED. If you're looking to get in on most of the fabulous Switch library at a minimum cost, then the Lite is definitely the way to go. The two biggest caveats are that the Switch Lite can only be played in handheld mode (no docking possible) and the controllers aren't detachable, which means it's not compatible with the few games that can only be played with detached controllers. You can get around this by purchasing a separate pair of Joy-Cons, but at that point you might as well get the Switch.
