Last year, the long-awaited anime adaptation of Naoya Matsumoto's Kaiju No. 8 manga was announced for a 2024 release. Now, it finally has a streaming home.

Today at New York Comic Con, Crunchyroll announced that Kaiju No. 8 is exclusively headed to its platform this spring. The series will be available in both subbed and dubbed formats in more than 200 countries, with weekly simulcasts occurring after its initial Japanese broadcast.

We also got a new trailer, which you can watch below.

“Hello from Japan to everyone attending New York Comic-Con," Matsumoto shared in a message during the NYCC Crunchyroll Industry panel. "I'm the author of Kaiju No. 8, Naoya Matsumoto. It's a story about someone struggling in a harsh world without ever giving up, in the hopes of leading people into an even slightly brighter future. To anyone dealing with the complexities of reality that reads this manga, I hope it can help make your future a little brighter, too.

"Next year when Kaiju No. 8 begins to air in America and worldwide, I'll be looking forward to seeing your reactions. I hope you're looking forward to it, too!”

Kaiji No. 8 heads to Crunchyroll

Kaiju No. 8 follows Kafka Hibino, who once pledged to defeat kaiju (or large monsters attacking humanity) with his childhood best friend Mina Ashiro. Years later, Kafka is estranged from Mina and his childhood dream — until he meets the determined Reno Ichikawa, who inspires him to return to his former dream.

The series is animated by Production I.G (known for PSYCHO-PASS and Ghost in the Shell), with kaiju art and other design supervision done by Studio Khara (known for its work on Evangelion: New Theatrical Edition).

NYCC just kicked off today, but we've already seen quite a few other announcements, including a new Dragon Ball series called Dragon Ball: Daima, DC's revival of the popular Elseworlds imprint, and a jam-packed lineup of new comics from Oni Press in a series called Oni 2024.
