Jason Blum is confident the Spawn movie reboot will release in theaters in 2025, despite experiencing several setbacks and delays on the way to the big screen.

In a new interview with ComicBook.com, Blum gave fans of the Todd McFarlane creation a promising update. He confirmed the long-awaited Spawn reboot is still on track, even with recent Hollywood strike action, as he doubled down on his previous "prediction" of a 2025 release window for the movie.

"2025 is when Spawn is going to come out. I stand by that. I stand by that," the Blumhouse CEO firmly asserted. "The update on Spawn is we're very close to having a script that we're all gonna feel great about. And once we have that, we'll attach a director and an actor, and we're gonna go make the movie."

Blum first mentioned 2025 as a possible release date for Spawn in June 2023, telling the outlet his "prediction is maybe we'll actually see a Spawn movie in '25. No promises, but that's my prediction". It seems like development is moving at a steady pace for Blum to be able to add weight to his previous comments.

Spawn may be on target for its release, but the original plan to create a cheap, low-budget horror movie has veered off track. McFarlane revealed they have been enlisting several A-list actors, including Jamie Foxx and Jeremy Renner, to work on the upcoming production, growing the roster and the production budget.

"My original plan has gotten tripped up a bit," McFarlane told ComicBook.com. "We're bringing on A-list people. Not just one, but multiple A-list people... What they're not going to want is to do a cheap, low-budget movie with all of these big-name people on it. That's not why they're signing up. They're not looking for a big extravaganza. But, they're also not looking for an 8 million dollar horror movie budget."

The Spawn reboot has been gestating in the Hollywood belly for a while, and Spawn creator Todd McFarlane has been talking about this project in some capacity since 1998, a year after Spawn's first film hit theaters. McFarlane formally re-announced the movie in 2017, providing several updates in the years since.

He told IGN in September that they were nearing the finish line with the script before the Writers Guild of America (WGA) called a strike. He said the latest rewrite of the screenplay by Scott Silver, Malcolm Spellman, and Matt Mixon was up to page 80, and he was hopeful they could complete it once the work stoppage was over.

The WGA has since ended their historic five-month strike and made a tentative deal with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP). The Screen Actors Guild (SAG) remains on the picket lines and will restart negotiations with studios this week to try and reach an agreement to allow actors to return to work.
