Marvel changed the way that many looked at superheroes. There was a sense of realism in their books, and Marvel was never afraid of getting dark in their stories. Marvel was always marketed towards slightly older kids than DC and as the comic industry got more mature, so did Marvel. Over the years, Marvel has put out some very dark stories. Sometimes, these end on a hopeful note.
