Dead City has mimicked some of the most common themes and tropes from The Walking Dead franchise, which were already unpopular among fans. Recycling these storylines was a poor way to introduce the next generation of Walking Dead shows. However, building on Negan and Maggie's arc as shaky allies and occasional enemies proved to be a great focal point for the franchise after the conclusion of the long-running original show.
