Twisters star Glen Powell has revealed Edgar Wright's The Running Man remake will begin filming this fall.

Powell spoke to IndieWire about his schedule after being caught up in the whirlwind press run for Twisters (which is already making a significant impact at the box office), revealing that the latter half of the year will comprise a mixture of studying and shooting for him. That's because he plans to finish a degree in Spanish and Early American History while also going into production on The Running Man in London.

The world that Edgar's developed on this thing is just outrageous.

"I'm going to be shooting The Running Man in the fall," Powell confirmed. "We've been going back and forth on script stuff, and it's so fun. The world that Edgar's developed on this thing is just outrageous. It's so good. And really, we're just both such big fans of the Stephen King book [the movie is based on], and it's going to be a great character. I'm so fired up about it."

Powell has teamed up with several big-name directors in recent years, including Joseph Kosinski on Top Gun: Maverick and Lee Isaac Chung on Twisters, but collaborating with Wright is a long-standing career dream for him.

"I searched my email, and I searched Edgar Wright in my email, and it came up: I had a wish list of directors that I wanted to work with in 2008 when I moved out to LA that I sent my agent at the time — and Edgar Wright is literally number one," the actor revealed. "I'm such an Edgar Wright man. And so, the fact that I get to work with him right now is just so damn cool."

Powell will lead the cast of The Running Man remake, taking on the role played by Arnold Schwarzenegger in the 1987 movie, which Paul Michael Glaser directed from a script by Steven E. de Souza, which was loosely based on the 1982 novel of the same title written by Stephen King and published under the pseudonym Richard Bachman.

The original movie imagines a dystopian future (2019, for the most part) wherein the contestants of a television show are hunted and killed by colorful WWE wrestler types. The ethics of broadcasting blood sports is only questioned when a charismatic hero – Schwarzenegger, of course – manages to fight off his hunters.
