2023 wasn't the best year for original genre shows on television and streaming. While there were plenty of returning favorites like Star Trek: Strange New Worlds on Paramount+, Good Omens on Prime Video and The Mandalorian on Disney+, many new series were delayed by the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes. Thre was also the highly popular Lockwood & Co., which was canceled shortly after the whole of Season 1 was added to Netflix. With managerial changes at Warner Bros. Discovery, shows and movies that were expected to be added to the Max streaming service were either shelved like Batgirl or moved to other services, such as Batman: Caped Crusader, which moved to Prime.
