Dragon Ball: Daima dropped a new trailer that showed new villains and chibi designs of its titular heroes and narrowed down the hotly anticipated anime’s release window. Dragon Ball Daima is slated to release in October 2024.
In the trailer, we get a glimpse of a tiny version of Piccolo to join the cast of chibi heroes. We also get a look at what might be new villains-turned-allies in a robot and a blue alien. The trailer also sees teeny Goku traveling to new planets with his Dragon Ball-era power pole, all but confirming the series is a Toriyama cut of Toei’s Dragon Ball GT—a post-Dragon Ball Z series that follows a similar plot where Goku travels the universe as a kid in search of the dragon balls.
Side characters like Supreme Kai may have a more significant role in the series, unlike GT.

Anime fans have been champing at the bit for a morsel of information about the late Dragon Ball creator Akira Toriyama’s final project. While the new trailer doesn’t give fans many concrete details to glean with respect to the show’s plot thanks to its voice actor-less montage, a synopsis from the late creator himself on the anime’s official website does.
“Due to a conspiracy, Goku and his friends are turned small. In order to fix things, they’ll head off to a new world! It’s a grand adventure with intense action in an unknown and mysterious world,” Toriyama wrote. “Since Goku has to make up for his petite size, he uses his nyoibo (power pole) to fight, something not seen in a long time.”
Dragon Ball: Daima was first revealed at New York Comic Con's Dragon Ball panel. During the panel, executive producer Akio Iyoku revealed that Toriyama was heavily involved in the production of the show “beyond his usual capacity.” According to Iyoku, Toriyama oversaw Dragon Ball: Daima’s story and character designs, among other things. With Toriyama’s passing earlier this March, Daima will become the famed creator’s final project.
In addition to Toriyama’s involvement, Dragon Ball: Daima is being directed by Yoshitaka Yashima, an animation director from Dragon Ball Super, and Aya Komaki, an episode director from One Piece, according to Anime News Network. The anime will also feature character designs from Katsuyoshi Nakatsuru (Digimon Adventure) and script supervision from Yuuko Kakihara (Urusei Yatsura 2022). The series will also see the return of long-time Goku voice actor Masako Nozawa.
“I’m actually putting a lot more into this than usual,” Toriyama said. “Things will unfold that close in on the mysteries of the Dragon Ball World. Hope you all enjoy these different-from-usual battles that are cute and powerful!”
