Marvel Rivals has gained a reputation for being something of an Overwatch clone, but developers NetEase Games have a response to that: Marvel Rivals is also Splatoon. Or at least it will be for a little while, as a new limited-time mode called Jeff’s Winter Splash Festival is coming to Marvel Rivals next week, which will give players a taste of what it’s like to play Nintendo’s colorful, kid-friendly shooter series.
Jeff’s Winter Splash Festival is part of Marvel Rivals’ upcoming Winter Celebration event, which kicks off Dec. 20. The all-Jeffs-all-the-time mode challenges two teams of four to cover a wintry map in their team’s color of Jeff’s, uh, Joyful Splash. Instead of Inklings and Octolings, everyone will play as the beloved Jeff the Land Shark, shooting each other and spraying festive saliva to claim territory.
Of course, this is Marvel Rivals, so expect plenty of event-themed costumes — including an adorable winter coat and earmuffs for Jeff. Groot will also be able to dress up like a Christmas tree, while Magik and Rocket Raccoon look read to hit the slopes. Venom is bringing perfectly iced cakes for the holiday party.
Marvel and NetEase Games also promise a “special winter greeting card with gifts from Jeff” and “a few surprises” as part of Marvel Rivals’ Winter Celebration, so fire it up next week to see what digital presents your favorite land shark has under the Groot.
Marvel Rivals, which is free to play, is available for PlayStation 5, Windows PC, and Xbox Series X.
