Twisters star Glen Powell has revealed the only superhero he would like to play is Batman because he believes he could put his own spin on the character.
In a new interview with GQ, Powell offered some insight into what he would bring to the table if he ever had the chance to suit up as Batman. Though he admittedly has no interest in superhero roles, he revealed he is a fan of the Michael Keaton-led Batman era and could probably make an exception to play Bruce Wayne's alter-ego.
"I was always a Batman guy. I would have a wild take on Batman. It definitely would not be like a Matt Reeves tone – it'd probably be closer to [Michael] Keaton," Powell remarked while walking through the Warner Bros. Studio lot tour's Batmobile section, pointing out the iconic car from the 1989 Tim Burton movie. "See? This is the era."
The closest Powell has ever been to Batman is a brief appearance as "Trader #1" at the Gotham Stock Exchange in Christopher Nolan's 2012 film The Dark Knight Rises, where, in the actor's own words, he got his "head smashed in" by Tom Hardy's Bane.
Now, it seems Powell would like to follow in the footsteps of every other actor who has pulled on the famous cape and cowl, but he joins a long list of stars wanting to join the DC Universe. Keanu Reeves and Alan Ritchson have both expressed interest in playing the Gotham-based vigilante, while Nicolas Cage sees himself as Egghead.
The next Batman movie is The Batman – Part II, a sequel to 2022's The Batman, once again directed by Matt Reeves and starring Robert Pattinson. There is no word on plot details yet, but the film's scheduled release date recently got pushed back to October 2, 2026, with a third movie expected to follow further into the future.
James Gunn also has a new Batman movie in the works, titled The Brave and the Bold, announced as part of the DC Universe's Chapter One: Gods and Monsters roadmap. Andy Muschietti is helming this one, following Damian Wayne, the son of Bruce Wayne and Talia al Ghul, in a story inspired by Grant Morrison's comic series.
