It’s official: The Marvels is the shortest film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
A new listing on AMC Theaters has revealed that the upcoming superhero team-up clocks in at just 105 minutes long — that’s a brisk 1 hour and 45 minutes.
The Marvels beats the previous shortest MCU flick record by seven minutes — that’s The Incredible Hulk and Thor: The Dark World, which both clocked in at 112 minutes long.
But to get an idea how The Marvels really stacks up, we should take a look at some of Marvel’s other superhero team-ups…
The Avengers debuted in 2012 with a 145-minute runtime (2 hours and 25 minutes). Of course, it had a lot to cram in, with debuts from some of Marvel’s biggest heavy hitters, and the Avengers movies tend to sit around the same kind of runtime.
Age of Ultron followed at 141 minutes (2 hours 21 minutes) with Avengers: Infinity War at 149 minutes (2 hours 29 minutes). Avengers: Endgame was, understandably, the longest MCU movie with a staggering 181-minute runtime (3 hours 1 minute). Considering the epic scale of it all, that’s not surprising.
Some of Marvel’s other multi-hero movies have also outrun The Marvels. Captain America: Civil War clocked in at 147 minutes (2 hours 27 minutes). Even Spider-Man: No Way Home, which featured the first ever team-up of three Spider-Men, ran for 148 minutes (2 hours 28 minutes).
So, what’s the deal with The Marvels? We’ve already had a deep dive into Captain Marvel’s past with her solo film, and Ms. Marvel recently headlined her own six-part TV series. That leaves Monica Rambeau as the only hero yet to properly debut her powers, which likely leaves a lot less backstory to tell.
Either way, the film’s runtime is no measure of its quality. The Marvels getting a breezy runtime that’s well under two hours could give us the light, entertaining popcorn flick we’ve been waiting for.
