The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon will resume production following an agreement between AMC Networks and the Screen Actors Guild-American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA).
According to Deadline, AMC negotiated with SAG-AFTRA to secure an interim agreement for the series to continue filming amid the ongoing actors' strike. The outlet notes that the agreement also permits the casts and crews of The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live and Interview With the Vampire to return to work.
Daryl Dixon received a second season renewal in July, two months before the show's premiere is scheduled to debut on AMC and AMC+. The interim agreement will allow the series, which is the fifth spinoff in The Walking Dead universe, to get the cameras rolling on the second season, with production set to take place in Europe.
The series will focus on Norman Reedus' fan-favourite titular character as he treks across a broken but resilient France, hoping to find a way back home. However, the synopsis for the show hints that his journey will present some challenges along the way as "the connections he forms along the way complicate his ultimate plan."
The flagship Walking Dead series concluded in November after 11 seasons on air. Daryl Dixon will premiere on September 10 before The Ones Who Live, starring Andrew Lincoln and Danai Gurira, rolls out in 2024. The latter series will now complete work in post-production, including additional dialogue recordings (ADR).
Both series' halted when SAG-AFTRA joined striking writers on the picket line in July, marking the first dual strike by the two unions since 1960. Issues include contracts with producers/studios and working conditions, with members demanding higher residuals and protections against Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology.
