DC Comics was once the home of squeaky-clean comics that seemed more like they were written for children than Marvel's stories. All of that changed in the 1980s when DC embraced mature storytelling and gave readers dark stories like they'd never before. Since then, DC's old reputation has gone away; while there are still DC comics that aren't pitch black, the company still publishes some very dark comics.
