The Halloween franchise was an unsettling corner of the slasher genre as it brought to light the reality that no neighborhood was ever really safe from harm. But in the case of Michael Myers, his menace was more focused and recognized due to the white mask he always wore. In a way, it represented the ever-present danger that came with the façade of safety and each entry in the franchise pushed Michael's menace to the limit. Yet, it would be 40 years until Michael eventually crossed one of the darkest lines of all.
