Update 8:30am: The WandaVision steelbook that does not include discs is not an official Marvel product but is instead being produced by independent company Manta Lab.
Disney's home video team confirmed with Digital Bits founder Bill Hunt that the product is not official despite claiming it's "pending licensor approval".
The following article has therefore been amended to reflect that this is not an official Marvel product, and IGN regrets the error made previously.
Original story 7:45am: Marvel fans grew excited over the weekend at the announcement of a steelbook edition of Disney+ exclusive WandaVision before realising it doesn't come with a disc.
As reported by The Direct, Manta Lab unveiled the WandaVision steelbook that comes with a slip case, character cards, postcards, an envelope, and folder, but no actual disc (or seemingly even a code) to watch WandaVision on.
The steelbook is therefore just a collectible for Marvel fans to sit on their shelves next to the steelbook versions of all the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) films, but the actual show will remain exclusive to those subscribed to Disney+.
While subscription service streaming has become the norm for TV series and even a lot of films, it does mean those lost simply cease to exist. Willow, for example, was removed from Disney+ less than six months after it ended, and now can't be watched anywhere. The steelbook offered a solution to this problem for a moment, before fans realised there's no Wandavision actually included.
WandaVision ushered in a new era of the MCU as the first (of many) TV shows. Though no other steelbooks have been announced, it's likely Manta Lab will also release follow-ups including She-Hulk and Secret Invasion, though WandaVision is considered among the better TV show entries.
