HBO is officially developing a Game of Thrones movie, with A Song of Ice and Fire author George R.R. Martin involved in the process.
As reported by Variety, HBO and Max CEO Casey Bloys confirmed the previously reported Game of Thrones film is in fact in development, though seemingly still has a long way to go before fans can visit theatres to watch it.
"They're going to develop ideas," Bloys said. "We'll see if it's good. We'll read the scripts along with them. I think it could be fun and interesting. I mean, that's the point of development. You see, 'Is there a story that's worthy of being in theaters and a big spectacle?' I think it would be fun."
This is just one of several continuations of Game of Thrones planned by HBO but the only one so far set for the big screen. Definitely happening spin-offs number just two, however, obviously starting with two season deep House of the Dragon alongside fellow incoming prequel A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms.
HBO appears to be perpetually working on myriad Game of Thrones spin-offs but many don't see the light of day.
Cancelled series so far include a prequel based on an in-world apocalypse called The Long Night, which HBO scrapped after spending $30 million on a pilot episode, a show called 10,000 Ships which would focus on a sea-faring city, a mysterious Braavos series which Martin plans on continuing in writing form himself, and a sequel starring Kit Harington as Jon Snow.
Martin recently appeared to tease a return of Arya Stark actress Maisie Williams too, though nothing has been said officially about such a comeback.
