Marvel's Contest of Chaos has seen Agatha Harkness using her magic to force the world's greatest heroes into combat against one another for mysterious purposes. While this can be seen as nothing more than an excuse to entertain fans with "Who Would Win?" scenarios, the matchups it produced have gone to show the best the Avengers, the X-Men, and more have to offer. The matchup of Cyclops vs. Captain Marvel, however, was written off as a joke long before X-Men Annual #1 by Paul Allor and Allesandro Miracolo was released. Fans reasoned one of the weaker X-Men, whose only power is shooting energy, stood no chance against the most powerful Avenger, who has the ability to absorb energy, among many others. Even as both Wolverine and Storm handily won their matches against Spider-Man and Iron Man, respectively, even Scott Summers' most fervent supporters were making memes about his upcoming loss.
