Finding a good 55-inch OLED TV for under $800 is very rare, but one such deal is happening right now that easily beats any TV deal we saw during Black Friday. The LG B3 OLED 4K TV is $798 (was $1,199) at Walmart, and it’s a fantastic price even though this is last year’s model.
The B3 is a great TV to buy if you’re into gaming; it features a 120 Hz refresh rate, with variable refresh rate support to keep gameplay looking smooth even if the frame rate drops, and its two HDMI 2.1 ports let your PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X games take full advantage of that refresh rate while displaying at 4K resolution. It has four HDMI ports in total, but only two of them is a high-bandwidth HDMI 2.1 port.
But the B3’s picture quality makes it a great choice for watching anything on, including movies and TV shows. Whether you’re watching sitcoms or moody flicks that feature plenty of dim scenes and bold usage of lighting, the OLED shines because every model has per-pixel control of color and luminance. If part of a scene is supposed to be black, it’ll be pure black, not the grayish attempt at black that cheaper TVs often show as a result of them relying on less accurate dimming zones.
I frequently visit RTINGS.com for its in-depth testing on displays, especially before I make a purchasing decision, and it says that the newer B4 model, while offering very similar features, can get brighter than the model that’s discounted today, and that it features four HDMI 2.1 ports as opposed to two in the B3. As for how pricing compares, you can get a 48-inch B4 OLED right now at Best Buy for $699.99, a good price. But, if you ask me, paying $100 more for a bigger TV is an even better deal.
