Ridley Scott's Napoleon represents something of a passion project for the 85-year-old director, encapsulating five decades of filmmaking with the kind of big-budget historical epic expected from a legend approaching the end of his career. Scott has stressed that -- despite the 158-minute running time and massive battle sequences -- that his interest lies mainly in his subject's psychological make-up. "He's got a lot of bad s**t under his belt," Scott recently told Empire magazine. "At the same time, he was remarkable with his courage, and in his can-do and in his dominance. He was extraordinary." Big things are expected, especially with Joaquin Phoenix in the title role.
