Doctor Doom is nothing if not egotistical, but is even he foolish enough to take on the mighty Galactus? It would seem so, as Marvel is teasing an upcoming showdown between the two villains in the pages of Doom #1.
This standalone one-shot comic is co-written by Jonathan Hickman, who has plenty of experience writing Victor von Doom in titles like Fantastic Four, New Avengers and Secret Wars. Hickman is joined by co-writer and artist Sanford Greene (Bitter Root). Check out Greene's cover to Doom #1 below:
Doom #1 is set in a near-future version of the Marvel Universe. Faced with the propsect of Galactus devouring the entire universe, Doom teams up with Reed Richards' daughter Valeria to seek out enough power to level the playing field. Can even someone as ambitious as Doom hope to triumph over Galactus? Well, he did manage to insta-kill Thanos once upon a time...
“Growing up reading Marvel comics, I became fascinated by Doctor Doom and how he potentially is the center of the entire Marvel Universe!” Greene said in Marvel's press release. “He is one of my bucket list characters and this story is somewhat a love letter to Doom and Marvel."
“Jonathan is a longtime friend and he always amazes me with his vast knowledge of all types of things, especially the Marvel universe,” Greene continued. “I couldn't think of anyone better to collaborate with.”
"Sanford and I have been waiting to work together for quite a while, so when he told me that he’d come up with an amazing Doom story and he wanted me to help out, I jumped at the chance,” Hickman said. “It’s a giant-sized story about a giant-sized character and I can’t tell you how excited I am to get to write Doom again."
Doom #1 will be released on May 15, 2024.
