Peter Jackson took on the challenge of directing The Lord of the Rings and had to do justice to J.R.R Tolkien's famed book series. Before the movies, the books had already generated a strong following. The onus not only fell onto Jackson to deliver a high standard of art, but had the cast been different, or if the actors hadn't taken their jobs seriously, the films could have been a complete wash-out.
