One of the biggest anime franchises in Japan is easily the Mobile Suit Gundam series of mecha fiction. Starting the more grounded "Real Robot" genre of anime, the franchise is as well-known for its actual shows as it is the many model kits and figures that have been made for it. Due to how expansive the series is, however, it can be fairly daunting for newcomers to try it out and see what's so exciting about the property.
