Back in the mid-2000s, Nickelodeon fans were treated to a brand-new fantasy show titled Avatar: The Last Airbender, set in a pan-Asian setting with cool elemental powers, exotic animals, and intriguing worldbuilding. Over the course of three seasons (called "Books") Avatar: The Last Airbender depicted Avatar Aang's rise from some kid in monk robes to a wise, powerful hero who was ready to save the world. But of course, nothing was perfect or ideal at first. Many of Avatar's characters and narrative elements were first presented at their worst, then got better over time.
