Beef Season 2 is reportedly on the way, and it might be bringing along some of Hollywood’s biggest stars.
Deadline reports that the Netflix and A24 anthology series will continue with a new feud-centered storyline that revolves around two couples. Charles Melton (Riverdale, The Sun Is Also a Star) and Cailee Spaeny (Priscilla, Bad Times at the El Royale) could play one of the couples, with Jake Gyllenhaal (Nightcrawler, Prisoners) and Anne Hathaway (The Dark Knight Rises, Les Misérables) also being eyed to join the cast.
The report adds that Netflix and A24 have scripts ready and expect to get Season 2 into production by late summer or fall. As the companies move fast and focus on what sounds to be an already stacked cast, it’s important to note that early information like this could change at any time. Additionally, no deals with the actors mentioned have successfully gone through yet.
Beef Season 1 brought subscribers an experimental 10 episodes. Starring Ali Wong and Steven Yeun, the story follows two strangers who get into a road rage incident but can’t seem to let go of their grudges. Their spiral into obsession and anger is what brought the limited story its success, and it looks like Netflix viewers probably have something more to look forward to.
In addition to seeing success with viewers at home, Beef Season 1 managed to walk away from a laundry list of wins at some of the industry's biggest award shows. At the 75th Emmy Awards, the show won for best Limited or Anthology Series, Lead Actress in a Limited or Anthology Series (Wong), Lead Actor in a Limited or Anthology Series (Yeun), and more. It also snapped up three awards at The Golden Globes, including Best Television Limited Series, Anthology Series, or Motion Picture Made for Television.
We loved Beef, too, and gave it a 9/10 in our review. We said, “In Beef, Steven Yeun and Ali Wong give career-best performances playing angry, lost souls who transform one another's lives.” In fact, we enjoyed the show so much that it managed to be a runner-up in our list of 2023’s best TV shows.
