The Star Wars franchise has been around for over 45 years, and it shows no signs of slowing down. Like all properties of its size and scope, it's had to take its share of lumps over the years, when good intentions take a turn for the silly or even the flat-out awful. Like any sufficiently devoted fanbase, the Star Wars faithful eventually end up embracing the bad material anyway. Exhibit A is The Star Wars Holiday Special, an endeavor so ghastly that Lucasfilm is still pretending that it never happened. As the upcoming documentary A Disturbance in the Force recounts, Star Wars fans love it precisely because it's so silly.
