Hulu is gearing up to crack down on users sharing their account passwords with people living outside their homes, making it the latest streaming service to tackle this issue.

Variety first reported that Hulu had informed its customers about an update to its subscriber agreement. The latest revision to the agreement, dated January 24, 2024, now forbids users from sharing their Hulu login credentials with people who do not reside in the same household as the account holder.

Under section two of the Hulu subscriber agreement, the Disney-owned streaming service mentions that it "may, in [its] sole discretion, analyze the use of your account to determine compliance with this Agreement", and that the streaming service may limit or terminate access to your account "and/or take any other steps as permitted" if it finds you have violated the subscriber agreement.

Hulu did not immediately respond to IGN's request for comment.

Hulu is not the first streaming platform to crack down on password sharing. Last August, Disney CEO Bob Iger revealed in an earnings call that Disney+ would initiate restrictions on sharing account login information by account holders starting this year.

Both companies are following the trend that was first set by Netflix, which began cracking down on password sharing last May. However, its decision has paid off big time for the streaming giant as the company saw an increase in subscribers and added additional measures to prevent password sharing.
