Dystopian films are quite a feat of storytelling, especially when done right. On the one hand, movies within the genre tend to be entertaining, action-packed thrill rides since they usually place their protagonists in a vivid, torn-apart world that requires a sharp sense of survival. The flip side is that their audiences are also presented with a hypothetical, worst-case future (or present), one intended to invoke a robust emotional and introspective response by cutting to the core of humanity's greatest fears. The 2013 dystopian film Snowpiercer is no different, but its narrative stands out among its contemporaries, even now, due to its subject.
