James Gunn's Superman: Legacy is continuing to round out its cast in the weeks following the approval of a tentative agreement to end the SAG-AFTRA strike, with the latest additions to the DC Studios feature being Sara Sampaio and Skyler Gisondo.
Warner Bros selected Sampaio for the role of Eve Teschmacher in the upcoming film, according to Deadline. An exclusive from The Hollywood Reporter, published the same day, revealed that Gisondo would also be joining the cast as Jimmy Olsen.
Sampaio is an actor and Portuguese model known for her work with Victoria Secret. She most recently appeared on screen in the rom-com At Midnight. Taking a drastic tonal shift from the previous roles she's inhabited, Sampaio will portray Eve Teschmacher, Lex Luthor's assistant-turned-mistress, in the upcoming Superman film.
Gisondo has been cast as Jimmy Olsen, a cub photographer at The Daily Planet. The 27-year-old actor, who plays a recurring character on The Righteous Gemstones, isn't entirely unfamiliar with the superhero genre, having played Gwen's brother, Howard Stacy, in the Amazing Spider-Man movies. However, for both him and Sampaio, starring in Superman: Legacy marks an entry point into the DC Universe.
Teschmacher's anticipated appearance on screen is a long time coming; the character was last portrayed in a feature film by Valerie Perinne in Richard Donner's Superman I and II.
Jimmy Olsen, on the other hand, has seen abundant representation throughout the Superman franchise, and was most recently portrayed by Michael Cassidy in 2016's Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. The role was originated by Jack Larson in the 1950s on the series Adventures of Superman.
The two new additions to the cast come on the heels of yesterday's announcement that Nicholas Hoult will play Lex Luthor — a role formerly embodied by Gene Hackman, Kevin Spacey and Jesse Eisenberg.
A week earlier, Deadline also revealed that María Gabriela de Faría would be joining the supporting cast as Angela Spica, better known by her nickname "The Engineer. De Faría is a Venezuelan actor who has previously starred in Fox comedies like Animal Control and The Moodys.
Prior to the SAG-AFTRA strike, David Corenswet was confirmed to be taking on the mantle as the next Man of Steel. In the same article, it was also announced that Rachel Brosnahan (The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel) would star opposite Corenswet as Lois Lane, an award-winning journalist and Clark Kent's primary love interest.
Superman: Legacy is scheduled to shoot early next year. The current theatrical release date for the film is July 11, 2025.
