Blue Eye Samurai Season 2 is officially a go, Netflix confirmed today. The popular animated series, which first released last month, was confirmed to be getting a second season in an announcement released Monday.
"When we started this project, we made a commitment to take this very personal story set in Edo-period Japan and bring it to life in the most authentic and beautiful way possible. Our animators, historians, musicians, martial artists and voice cast made this a reality beyond our expectations," said co-creators Amber Noizumi and Michael Green in a joint statement.
"We are thankful to our entire team and to our viewers from all over the world who have shown such passion for Mizu and her path of revenge. Mizu has a lot more blood to spill! We are deeply grateful to our incredible partners at Netflix for letting the journey continue."
Additional Blue Eye Samurai Season 2 details will be released at a later date.
Blue Eye Samurai follows Mizu, a "mixed-race master of the sword" on a quest for revenge in Edo-era Japan. It currently boasts a 100 percent rating on Rotten Tomatoes and a 96 percent audience score, with critics praising it for its visually striking animation.
While animation has struggled amid cutbacks on many streamers, Netflix has nevertheless found considerable success with acclaimed projects like Blue Eye Samurai, Scott Pilgrim Takes Off, and Castlevania.
