For a while, it looked like Netflix had another hit on its hands with Shadow and Bone. Based on the popular book series known as the Grishaverse by Leigh Bardugo, Shadow and Bone follows a young map maker named Alina Starkov (Jessie Mei Li) who finds out she's actually a powerful Grisha prophesied to save her country. The show made a splash with its first season in April 2021 and released a second season in March 2023. Although the series' creators had hoped to continue the story in a third season and a spinoff based on the Six of Crows duology, Shadow and Bone was canceled on November 15, 2023.
